Mladenov is the Board of Peace high representative — the official in charge of implementing Trump's 20-point plan for Gaza. He criticised Israel for its attacks on the Palestinian territory. He said the plan had not stalled and had 'moved from the negotiating table to the engineering table.' He said Hamas had agreed to the plan's key provision — disarming and handing Gaza over to civilian rule. He did not say Israel had agreed to anything equivalent.

Mladenov was at the Security Council saying the plan had moved to the engineering table. The food warehouse was the engineering.
The marathon meeting between Jared Kushner and Netanyahu ended without a firm commitment from Israel to the latest US plan. The meeting lasted hours. Netanyahu did not commit. The Board of Peace official said at the UN: if the plan fails, the alternative is the next war. Netanyahu had said on August 9, in his Cabinet, that no Palestinian state would be established — not in Gaza, not in the West Bank — as long as he is prime minister. Hamas has agreed to disarm. Netanyahu has not agreed to withdraw. The plan requires both. One party has agreed to its most difficult provision. The other has not agreed to anything.
The death toll in Gaza since the October 2025 ceasefire is now above 1,100. Israel's airstrike on a house in Deir al-Balah that damaged the food warehouse next to it was not an isolated incident. It was Wednesday. Wednesday is a day in Gaza the same way all other days are days in Gaza, characterised by the same daily arithmetic of strikes, warnings, casualties and condemnations.

The alternative is the next war. Nobody has said what the next war is a war for, given that the current war's stated objectives have not been achieved.
